New Zealand Highland Cattle Society

The New Zealand Highland Cattle Society is the only official register in New Zealand recognised by Overseas Highland Societies.
The Society was formed to assist in the development of the Highland Cattle breed in New Zealand.
Members are offered advice in the form of  Information and Publications.
Members register their animals with the Society where the information is collected, verified and published in the Herd book.
Promotion of the Highland breed is also part of the Societies activities along with the promotion of fellowship among the Highland Cattle breeders and members.
Liaison with other Societies is also established.

Members

The are at present more than 400 members. Members are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the NZHCS.
The members are also encouraged to promote the Society and the Highland Cattle breed.
Communication with the Society is also important to enable the Society to prosper and grow in accordance with its members.
Finally the members are encouraged to enjoy the fellowship of each other.

the seller

The Society requires that all cattle be tattooed or appropriately tagged and registered in accordance with the Herd book.
This allows the transfer of ownership to be completed and all information/pedigree correctly given to the buyer.
If the new buyer is not a member then the seller is encouraged to introduce the new buyer to the NZHCS.

The Buyer

It is important for the new buyer to do their homework before purchasing Highland Cattle.
Know what you are buying.
Ask questions and look at the registration papers.
When the transfer is carried out , check tattoo/tag number with relevant papers.
