The inaugural National Highland Open Fold Day was held nationwide. Members of the New Zealand Highland Cattle Society opened their folds to members of the public for them to view the wonderfully majestic cattle breed of Highland Cattle.
Hundreds of people took up this offer, and enjoyed some wonderfully traditional Scottish hospitality as well as the opportunity to view Highlands in a farming environment.
Highland Cattle are a fantastic beef animal, well suited to organic meat operations. They also do well in a dairy situation as a terminal sire, and are a good mid sized breed for lifestyle block home kill situations.
